Victory is in sight.

Looking left, looking right

Always looking for the light that’s bright.

Looking up, reaching high

Never give up, while there’s time to try.

Looking forward, looking ahead

Negative thoughts are not in my head.

Hanging tough for all it’s worth

Finding my way upon this earth.

Being our best is all we can be

That’s the goal for all to see.

Don’t settle for less than being your best

Good things to do, no time to rest.

Shooting straight and aiming high

Gonna get there, gotta try.

Wherever we start’s a shot in the dark

Can’t let that stop us from leaving our mark.

Life’s a race on a circular track

Keep on keeping on and never look back.

It’s about stretching and being bold

Always be reaching and going for gold.

Play by the rules and ring the bell

Play the game and do it well.

Share the credit, spread the fame

Live life large, and carry the flame.

Climb the hill and chase the light

It’s just ahead and shines so bright.

No worry, no waiting and no fear

Victory’s in sight and it’s really near.

All I want for Christmas is.....

I’ve been giving a lot of thought to my Christmas list for this year. I know you’re receiving this December 22 and that may be kind of late. You’ll probably have to pay a lot of additional dollars to get something to me in just three more days. But, remember it is more blessed to give than to receive and a few extra bucks to make sure I have a Merry Christmas on your money is a good thing to do.

Actually, my list for this year is pretty reasonable.

  • I want everyone to receive new masks from Santa.

  • I want everyone to wear those nice new masks.

  • I want everyone to remain socially distanced.

  • I want everyone to have high-powered soap to wash their hands.

  • I want everyone to get vaccinated when it’s their turn.

  • And, I want no more talk about stolen elections.

If you want to make me happy this year, that’s my list. The only other thing I might possibly want is cash. I am always open to that.

What really gets me excited is Christmas 2021. I want to be the first to share my list for a year from now. I have a better chance of getting these gifts if I’m not late in asking like I am this year. So, here is the 2021 list.

  • A family holiday dinner without social distancing.

  • Not a single TV story about a rising number of COVID cases. Not one.

  • No need to go into a bank with a mask on to demand money.

  • No fear of hugging my kids and grandkids.

  • A full year when I never have to wash my hands. Never.

  • Permission to go to large gatherings and not feel guilty.

  • A court order preventing use of the term super spreader.

  • Ditto for the term social distancing.

  • Double ditto for the word hoax.

  • No empty shelves for paper products in grocery stores.

  • Permission to sneeze without thinking I just killed someone.

  • And, of course the old standby -- cash. Preferably unmarked bills.

If you prefer to make a pledge of cash due in 2022, that will be o.k.

I hope the only thing any of us catch in 2021 is the spirit of Christmas and that we share that far and wide all year long.

That’s my list for a year from now. In the meantime, put a smile on your face for Holidays 2020. Remind yourself, it could be a whole lot worse. If you’re reading this, you’re still on the right side of the grass.

At least we still wipe down the wine bottles....

I’ve been under house arrest for about nine months now. In the beginning, it was stricter, but it’s still no fun. I’m only allowed to go to a very few essential places of business such as a wine store, gas station, pharmacy or golf course.

Fortunately, I don’t have to wear an ankle bracelet. I did at the beginning, but I took it off almost immediately because I believe as an American it is my choice whether or not to wear one of those cumbersome devices. It’s sort of a lot like the face mask issue. I choose to wear a face mask, but not an ankle bracelet.

Today, most of my dwindling net worth is invested in Hand Sanitizer futures with 80% alcohol. You simply can’t have enough of that. My hands have never been so clean.

I tried some of that other stuff we’ve been hearing about. It’s said to kill 99.9% of germs. That, of course opens up the issue of what type of germs are in the 0.1% that it does not kill? People tend to minimize that type of statistic. Not me. That’s easy to do till you become a victim of the remaining 0.1%. Right now for extra protection against that 0.1% I’m also injecting Murphy’s Oil Soap directly into a vein in my right arm three times daily. I’ve always been attracted to the pleasant odor of that product. A possible side benefit is this could help to lower my cholesterol.

Often, I send my wife into dangerous places like a grocery store. She’s 20 days younger than I am, therefore not as vulnerable from an elderly standpoint. She also spends less money at stores than I do. At the beginning of our house arrest, we would use some of our Wipes to go over the food, car keys, door knobs, light switches, steering wheel, garage opener, refrigerator door handle and countertops where all the stuff was set aside if only for a few minutes. Lately, we’ve relaxed that a bit and now just make sure to wipe off the wine bottles.

Something else we often clean off whenever we have been to a store is change such as dollar bills or quarters. This has led me to have an unusually large amount of guilt. I confess to readers and all others who spend their time more productively that I am engaged in money laundering. Richard Nixon became famous for looking into a TV camera and announcing for all the world to hear, “I am not a crook.” I wish I could say that, but money laundering is against the law. I feel terrible that I have allowed myself to head down such a slippery slope. At least I can spend the rest of my home detention knowing my conscience is now as clean as my hands.

I have to go now. It’s time to wash my hands again. You never know. One of those 0.1% germs may have found its way onto my keyboard. Also, it’s time for my morning injection of Murphy’s Oil Soap. It’s like a flu shot. Sometimes you don’t feel so good after you’ve done it. But, you know in the long run, you’ve done something good to both help yourself and others.
